Bright Bytes Coding Club for younger kids is a fun, age-appropriate after-school program for young creators ages 4–6. This playful introduction to technology uses colorful LED pixel lights and simple storytelling to help children explore early coding concepts through hands-on, creative activities.
With the help the instructor and lots of imagination, kids will:
• Discover patterns, colors, and cause-and-effect through light play
• Use basic sequencing (first, next, last) to “code” simple light shows
• Help decorate and light up a group prop (like a rainbow, rocket ship, or character)
• Experience the magic of turning ideas into glowing creations using xLights software (instructor-led)
• Designed with early learners in mind, each session blends movement, storytelling, art, and light — making learning feel like play.
Skills Gained:
Pattern recognition • Color exploration • Group collaboration • Early sequencing • Hands-on creativity
No reading or tech experience needed - just curiosity and wonder!

Kevin Crossman is a graduate of Brown University and has worked in education for decades, specializing in standardized tests, college admissions, and after school programming. He is proficient in web programming, including Web Development: PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Database Management. Kevin also has a love for LED lighting. After moving to Laureate Park in Lake Nona in 2014, he merged his skills in programming with his love for lighting and created Laureate Park Lights – Halloween and Christmas light shows at his house. He is eager to pass along his knowledge of light displays and programming to the next generations. Participating students will make their own light project to display at the end of each term.
